But We Like Brett Somers!

My husband and I were listening to Massresistance: The Radio Show this morning. No we weren't doing penance. We hadn't listened to the painfully boring show in awhile (Paul Harvey kicked them out of their usual timespot) but today our Saturday's gay agenda changed.

And for one brief second we felt sad for Brian Camenker. Oh it's not like you think. We felt sad for him like we feel sad for the "reality TV stars" who are in the media for one brief shining moment then pushed to the dustbin of mediocrity. Brian Camenker is like Brett Somers, a has been that never was. He's like the child jumping up and down in the back of the room screaming for attention while the teacher moves on, or in this case, Massachusetts moves on. Oh, he's called upon to make the occasional weird comment in some obscure newspaper but for the most part his 13 minutes of fame is gone (personally I think he peaked on Comedy Central).

Today they complained (for a good part of the hour) about the two new principals hired by the Newton School System because they are openly gay. The thought that these two individuals were qualified never entered the conversation.

Talk about real sadness.

Dr. King dreamed of a day when people would be judged by the content of their character; and not the color of their skin. I believe his late wife, a civil rights leader in her own right and a champion of GLBT equality and dignity, would have added "and who you choose to love" as part of Dr. King's dream. Cheers to the Newton School system that seeks to hire the best and brightest without regard to color, creed, or sexual orientation; and jeers to those still stuck in the past.

Has beens that never were indeed.

I think comparing Brain to Brett Sommers is an insult to poor Brett. At her peak back in the late 70's, the former wife of Jack Klugman, was being a quater of a million a year to work one day a week on Match Game.

And who could forget the performance she turned in as the secretary on the one season of The New Perry Mason Show.

I think Brain is more like JP Morgan of the Gong Show, JP was so crude she got kicked off the show by host Chuck Berris,

Okay people, let's put this in it's proper perspective....

From PRC Horror Stories:

1. In Newton, a first grade teacher "came out" as a homosexual to his class. He told them that could love a man "the way your mother and father love each other." The Superintendent defended the action, saying that the teacher needed to "be himself." Several upset parents who called the school were told that "you are the only one" who has complained.

2. Newton North High School had a "Bi-Sexual Awareness" day with posters around the school and students invited to a discussion event.

3. Newton, MA: 9th grade girls in the health classes are assigned to go to a drug store and buy condoms, and practice putting them on a banana.

4. In Newton, a high-school principal told a group of parents that they may not remove their children from the condom distribution program because "it is too important".

5. Newton, MA: The high school's World Language Department presented the film "ma vie en rose" - an R rated film about a homosexual 7 year old boy. The film's advertising describes: "Seven-year-old Ludo enjoys being a girl. Borrowing mommy's red high-heels, her lipstick, her earrings ... yummy! Trouble is, 7-year-old Ludo -- short for Ludovic (Georges du Fresne) -- is a boy, even if he is pretty in pink."

6. Newton, MA: School officials announced in the local newspapers that masturbation would be covered in the required courses for ninth grade.
- Newton WEEKLY GRAPHIC, "Plan OK'd amid sex ed furor: Tense emotions surround vote," May 13, 1993, 1.

7. Newton, MA: 9th Grade Sexuality and Health Course Outline reveals that "slanguage" will be used to discuss sex in the classroom. Additionally, videos shown "reveal" that there is a "range of opinions" about homosexuality. The following class is a discussion of "issues about how homosexuals are treated in our society."
- 9th Grade Sexuality and Health Course Outline, 1994-1995 school year.

Okay, class, do we see a pattern emerging?

And once again, as a reminder --"Cheers to the Newton School system that seeks to hire the best and brightest without regard to color, creed, or sexual orientation."

Buddy, you're either completely oblivious to reality, or you're lying through your teeth.

Wow! All that and Newton is still one of the best schools in the country. as mentioned by Massresistance:The Radio Show's guest on Saturday. Newton also has the lowest violence rates of any city in the country.
I guess the town of Newton must be doing something wrong then.

They obviously need to be lying to their students (#1 above)

Shielding them from realty (#2, 3 4, 6, & 7)

and showing them Dick Love Janes en francais #5.

Maybe we should also teach them that there should be "white's only" water fountains, only Chinese laundries and that the Holocaust never happened.

Funny how 'anonomous' - I couldn't possibly guess who you are - has all these silly "out of Newton" related stories. So...

1) - good for the teacher. kids are smart and I'd rather have the children talking about the teacher homosexuality with the teacher's permission; because they would otherwise gossip about it. Like thier parents are now. And isn't gossip a 'big' sin? It's one of the biggies I'm pretty sure.

2) - Bisexual awareness? so? you're crazy if you don't think ONLY adults are having sex. If the kids are doing it anyway, they should know what they're getting themselves into. No shame in education.

3) - 9th grade girls (teens) purchasing condoms? well if you're out there having sex (and only stupid people, with their head in the sand, think thier kids aren't in this day of Beyonce, Aguillera and Simpson) - they (the teen kids)should take the responsiblity with their bodies. If you're going to be having sex, you should know how it works and how to prevent pregnancy & this resposibility prevents the dreded "abortion" - more schools should do this.

4) - Condom distribution - see #3 - if you have sex; be responsible. And your kids ARE having sex. Gay, straight or bi. They're kissing someone and thinking they're more adult by doing it. We've all been there and now they're doing it younger than ever before. And you can't blame the gays for gils being sluts in high school.

5) - ma vie en rose - is a wonderful movie which obvioulsy you haven't seen. I'd figure you would love it. Because of the little boy who ISN'T gay, but has gender identity issues - big difference. The father gets fired and the family is forced out of the neighborhood after the little boy is beat up and called names repeatedly althought the little boy doesn't understand. I figure and "anonomous" person like you would LOVE the hate in that movie. Funny, I wonder if "anonomous" is trying to force anyone 'out of the neighborhood & workplace'?

6) - Teaching about masterbation. Go ahead and tell me that the kids are "pure" and never 'abuse themselves" - you dumb shit. If you're going to do it, you might as well know what you're doing. Why is this so hard to grasp. Do you really think ignorance is going to stop little Johny from 'whacking it' - Uh, no.

7) - discussing how homosexuals are treated? Like people causing huge sceenes in schools because they want their children ignorant? And trying to stop them from human rights because a silly piece of fiction called "the Bible" says so? Or perhaps is merely, because they don't want their children finding out that daddy likes to kiss boys? Any way it falls, children are smart and they behave like adults when treated like adults. Information is a great tool - knowledge is power. Just look at those dumb-ass idiots at Article 8 & Massresistence, they're the most misinformed people I've ever seen - but you don't know them, do you anonomous?

So, wait, a gay teacher is lying if he doesn't come out to his class?

That's right anonymous poster #5. It your student asks you if you have a wife and you say "no" and they say "why not" I think its appropriate to say why not. Additionally, after the discussion in the classroom, the teacher sent a note home to all the students parents telling them about the discussion that went on.

From all accounts the teacher is an excellent teacher and was supported by the school adminstration and Newton's mayor. Are we not supposed to ask the teachers to lie to the children and tell them he doesn't have wife because he hasn't found the right woman yet? pathetic.

If you believe Article 8/Massresistance's conspiracy theories that something is really up. The Teacher "came out" to his class on May 17, 2000 and Same sex marriages became legal on May 17, 2004! OOOOOOH...Ma Supreme Court Justice Margaret Marshall must have had something to do with it, alert Mass News! How can we link them to the Goodridges and Boston Bud now?

This is outrageous! As bright and advanced as she is, there is no way Lisa Simpson is having sex!

Let's see, if middle school and high school students believe that oral sex is safe sex, and you believe that they shouldn't be taught honestly about sex and sexuality, then I guess you've got a point: don't bother to teach 'em about condoms, you'll just confuse them.

LOL!

I just read in USA that the rallying cry for America in 2006 is going to be "No to Gay Adoption". Now we got you on the run with marriage we will end your access to "meat".

'Now we got you on the run with marriage we will end your access to "meat"'

are you stupid or just an asshole on purpose? how many times do you need to be told.

PEDOPHILES AND GAYS ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE.

why do you keep saying these things? it's hurtful and slanderous; and personally I find it not only offensive but showing great lack of charecter. so stop it, simply stop. if you have beef with child molesters treat them each individually and certainly don't clump them in with homosexuals. we are not interchangeable nor are we even linked. there are sick individuals within the gay community just like there are in the straight community. However, there are none as sick and twisted as those at Article 8 and MassResistance.

Boo, that contest would be like counting the number of jellybeans in a jar...

Thanks to the "anonymous" posters for being thoughtful enough to provide examples of what prejudice is, too.

I'm still trying to digest the "excellent article" Amy posted a few days ago. It turns out that children must be protected from anyone who's not rabidly homophobic.

When people have views supporting homosexuality, they should not be involved with youth in any way, period. Because they:

will provide inaccurate, misleading information to kids;

may limit a student's opportunity to hear warnings about the behavior;

may advocate or model inappropriate behavior;

may be directly involved in the molestation of kids themselves; or

may be in a position to allow others to do so.

They go on to say:
Strong religious faith, especially traditional Christian morality, often acts as a protective barrier to the development of homosexual desire. When children grow up trusting God as the Designer of masculinity and femininity, and if they are not sexually molested or have their innocence assaulted by other traumatic events, their feelings will be channeled normally toward heterosexual sex within marriage as an obvious and desirable goal.

Oddly, I was raised devoutly Catholic, was never molested, never had my innocence "assaulted," and am not only gay, but have been in a very happy relationship for 16 years now. I must be doing something wrong.

I can also name 10 friends who've been in relationships for over 10 years off the top of my head. Hmmm....
