Tony Award Winning Play is MassResistance's Target

Forever trying to create controversy where it doesn't exist, MassResistance is highlighting the actions of one closed minded individual to get the Concord School System to condemn a high school production of "Falsettos!" In case you hadn't heard about "Falsettos!" it received the following awards/nominations:

  • Tony Award for Best Musical(nominee)
  • Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical (winner)
  • Tony Award for Best Original Score (winner)
  • Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical (Rupert, nominee)
  • Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Kaplan, nominee)
  • Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Walsh, nominee)
  • Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical (nominee)
  • Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical (Walsh, winner)
  • Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival (nominee)
  • Theatre World Award (Kaplan, winner)

Yet this same award winning play is listed as "a vulgar and disgusting" on MassResistance's website. What's most astounding is that they call the play anti-Semitic which is astounding since the main theme of the play is readying the lead character's son for his bar mitzvah. The one reason they have a problem with this play is because the lead character comes out and leaves his wife for a man, plain and simply. They do not want anyone showing gay characters in a positive light.

They even have a video on their site which cuts and pastes pieces of the production so everything is out of context, not to mention illegal because 1) they videotaped a copyrighted production and 2) they videotaped children without their parents consent. The later is not surprising since that is what MassResistance is known for in the past.

MassResistance even questions a group's "Jewishness":
But just how "Jewish" is Temple Kerem Shalom? According to its website, it has no affiliation with any branch of Judaism and it enthusiastically supports the homosexual movement and other fashionable left-wing nonsense. In other words, their real "religion" is liberalism. They are to Judaism what a ham and cheese sandwich is to a Kosher diet. This kinds of temple usually attracts disaffected liberal Jews, much the way radical churches attract disaffected Christians. It's an embarrassment.
Again, not surprising since they believe everyone is supposed to condemn people who are gay just like them. Oh, and of course, they NEVER even saw the play!

Update: The woman who is complaining about the play also complained in 2007 when the high school put on the "Laramie Project"

The good news is that Concord Town Meeting overwhelmingly overturned this article.....first, an amendment was passed, changing it to commend the schools, and then the amended article passed overwhelmingly, sending a strong message to the teachers that the town supports them!

There were many students attending town meeting for the first time. It is hoped that this controversy will inspire them to continue to be involved in town government!
