And Another One's Gone

BayWindows is reporting that House Majority Leader John Rogers (D-Norwood) is against MFI's anti-gay marriage amendment:
In an interview with Bay Windows at his State House office Tuesday, Rogers, who supported the Travaglini-Lees compromise amendment at the 2004 and 2005 constitutional conventions, said he still holds a “fundamental belief” that marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman, but that he could not support
the current amendment proposal because it does not include a mechanism to provide any legal protections for same-sex couples.
The way this is going I wonder who will be on MFI's side when the ConCon starts up in July. With O’Flaherty of Chelsea and now Rogers bailing on the amendment I find it hard to believe that lesser know Reps will still support it. After all, everyone that voted against the amendment and ran was re-elected the last time.

Thanks BostonBud for updating us and keeping us informed. It's good to know that legislators are thinking about this and doing the right thing. If we can now persuade all the others to change their minds, maybe we can focus efforts in Massachusetts on other issues like jobs and poverty. We still need to continue to educate our legislators who still believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Being out there and and telling our stories will only help. Keep up the great work that you are doing here! Love reading your blog.

Unfortunately I think my hateful rep. Emille Goguen - Fitchburg, will always side against gay marriage and not care if it removes all the marriages performed, after all he wrote the article 8

Isn't Goguen retiring soon? Hopefully he will be replaced with someone more sympathetic to Goodridge soon.

Hi Guys and Gals,

The fact that the Speaker is with us is the reasons that
Rogers is against the anti marriage bill.

Travis, Emile and a small set of other arch conservative memebrs are still big MFI allies.

I think a large majority of the members will like to put the issue to rest and move on to issues that really need to be worked on like Education,Health Care and Economic development.

For the petition to move forward
they on need 50 legislators.
Which isn't a large number.

I would like to see a list of the
Senators and Reps who are on the fence.

If family and friends of those
solons meet with them we may have a chance of stopping the anti civil marriage bill when the Con Con meets.

Keep Happy thoughts!
