And Where Was Mitt?

It's been a couple of days since a SUPER majority of Massachusetts legislators overwhelming defeated the nasty anti-gay marriage amendment and what's happening now?

Ms. Massresistance, who is never at a loss for finger pointing, is already blaming both Vote on Marriage and the Catholic Church. One of the ridiculous arguments she makes is that the amendment lost because it didn't go far enough. She believes it should have voided all the marriages that have taken place since 2004. Well take away her law degree! O0ps, that's right, she's NOT a lawyer but you'd never know it since she's always giving "legal" opinions and advice on every law under the sun. I'm NOT a lawyer but even I know that you cannot put together a signature petition that reverses a Massachusetts Supreme Court Decision which is exactly what she would like to see done. (She can't be talking about getting a Massachusetts Legislator to file a bill because they couldn't even get a simple majority to approve former House Rep. & anti-gay activist Phil Travis' amendment.)

In today's Boston Globe we are also reading about how Kris Mineau (from the Mass Institute Against Gays) is going to target the 9 legislators who "switched" their votes:

Same-sex marriage opponents yesterday vowed to unseat four lawmakers who campaigned on a promise of supporting a constitutional ban but abandoned that
position on Thursday, helping gay rights advocates win a historic victory at the
Constitutional Convention.

Kris Mineau, president of the Massachusetts Family Institute, said the legislators, two freshman Democrats and two Republicans in the House, would be targeted with opponents in next year's election.

Kris, while I'm not one to give advice to the other side, I'd suggest you try and hold on to the 45 you already have since you've lost allies in every election since you started this whole debacle.

Finally, where's Mitt Romney, the flip-flopper who was responsible for all those original marriages in 2004. No one saw him in the Commonwealth twisting arms and lobbying like he did in 2004 when he got all the GOP legislators to support the Marriage/Civil Unions amendment. Maybe he's come 360 degrees now supports Equal Marriage?

Finally, in the words of Evelyn Reilly of MFI on NECN Tuesday night when asked what she thinks will happen at the Constitutional Convention on June 14th:

Do As I Say, Not As I Do

How expected that the day before the Con Con the 4 male Massachusetts Catholic Bishops send a letter to the State Legislators:

The bishops say that by sanctioning same-sex weddings, the state has taken away the rights of children by "redefining marriage in a way that is indifferent to the absence of mother or father." The letter asks that lawmakers approve the proposed ban so that Massachusetts voters can decide the issue in November 2008.

"Marriage is a fundamental social institution," the letter says. "Its definition and meaning are critical concerns for all in society. Because it involves issues of utmost social importance, extending far beyond questions strictly legal, the marriage debate should not be reserved only to lawyers and lawmakers. Every citizen has a stake in the outcome, because every citizen has a stake in the well-being of the family."

So once again, these men, who do not pay taxes like other businessmen (let's be real, the Church is a business) want a say in how the government is run.

I love the fact that they claim that "The State is taking away the rights of children" because of a law (and is false) when the Catholic Church actually aided and abetted the sexual abuse of children. Their continued actions ripped the innocence from THOUSANDS children through sexual abuse.

I don't ever recall the 4 Massachusetts Bishops ever sending a letter to the Massachusetts legislators apologizing for the HUGE child abuse scandal nor a letter to the people of Massachusetts for that matter.

Finally, how do the people, who for years attended their neighbor church only to find that the Bishops closed them down and sold them off, feel about the Massachusetts Bishops telling the legislators to let the people vote on a topic that has nothing to do with them, while the church goers were ripped from their home and beloved parishes with no say whatsoever?

Bravo Know Thy Neighbor!

I haven't really talked about the nasty bills that Massresistance/Article 8/Brian Camenker submitted to the legislature for approval. I didn't discuss it because I really didn't think it was even worth the time since it had no chance of passing (Brian and Amy are in HEAVY denial if they think they were ever going to get anything passed in Massachusetts again!). But the latest news on their "bills" are just too tempting to pass up.

Massresistance/Brian Camenker claimed on their website that they got whopping 25 legislators to "co-sponsor" their Parents Rights Bill S321. However, Know Thy Neighbor did a little poking around Beacon Hill and found out that some of the "co-sponsors" never even signed on:

KnowThyNeighbor had a lengthy conversation with Senator Richard Tisei, The Senate Minority Leader, this morning and the Senator is stating that for the record, he did not request that his name be added as a co-sponsor of this bill and that his record on LGBT rights speaks for itself. Senator Hedlund's aide, Ted Langill, confirmed that they have no email or phone record that confirmed Tisei's request for inclusion in the bill that would require a parental permission slip for teachers to use the words "homosexual, lesbian, transgender" or to discuss the current equal marriage fight or acknowledge the existence of families being headed by same-sex couples. Senator Tisei also confirmed to KnowThyNeighbor that Rep. Fallon, Senator Tarr and Rep. Donato also found their names erroneously on Bill S321.

Know Thy Neighbor is now reporting that 11 legislators have retracted their sponsorship of Bill S321. In the words of Massresistance:

Thanks go out to Know Thy Neighbor for continuously pointing out the fraud and deceit that the extreme right tries to pull over the citizens of Massachusetts.

Don't forget that the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention is this week on June 14th.

Never Forget

Germany is building a monument in Berlin which will be dedicated to the gays and lesbians who were persecuted and killed by the Nazis:

“With the installation of a memorial in the middle of our capital, the resolution by the German government to commemorate the homosexual victims of the Nazi regime is realized,” said Neumann [Germany's culture secretary] in a statement.

Tonight was also the night of the Holocaust Commemoration Service at the New England Holocaust Memorial near Faneuil Hall. It's incredible that all these people died because they were different and some people still believe it never happened.

I highly recommend the documentary "Paragraph 175" which discusses this topic and the aftermath of Nazi Germany on the gay population.

Out @ the Movies

For June Pride Month, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is showing classic movies with various gay and lesbian themes every Monday and Wednesday night all month:

In celebration of June’s Gay Pride Month, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will present Screened Out: Gay Images in Film, a month-long, on-air film presentation of the varied concepts, stereotypes and imagery of gays & lesbians as represented in classic Hollywood cinema. Esteemed author and historian Richard Barrios will serve as special consultant and co-host of the event, along with TCM host and film historian Robert Osborne, providing context for the film series with introductions on the network preceding the films. In addition to Barrios’ commentary, several prominent figures will provide their thoughts and remarks, including Michael Musto, Tab Hunter, Ron Nyswaner, Charles Busch and Alan Cumming.

The themed film series will air such classic movies as The Broadway Melody (1929), The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and Designing Woman (1957) every Monday and Wednesday evening in June beginning at 8 p.m. ET.

MassResistance's 2nd Smackdown

Brian Camenker gets smacked down again, but this time by a Holocaust survivor. In Bay Windows we find that Camenker blames his distorted view of the Holocaust history on a Holocaust survivor Stephen Ross:

When asked about Camenker’s claims Ross told Bay Windows, “I don’t know anything about his organization,” and he declined to comment further, directing Bay Windows to speak to his son. Councilor Ross said he had spoken with his father about Camenker’s claims and that his father “was very upset that someone was hijacking, was misappropriating his good name to get behind something he does not agree with.”

Councilor Ross added that his father told him he was not a member of MassResistance, but he said it was possible his father may have had a conversation with Camenker and that his words were distorted. “He was sexually molested [by Nazi guards]. So I think he could easily be preyed upon by a special interest group and has been in the past,” said Ross. In 2000, the anti-gay newspaper Massachusetts News published an interview with the elder Ross about being abused in the concentration camps, and the story claimed that Ross said that the Nazis’s opposition to homosexuality was a pretense to round up other groups like Catholic priests and that about 20 percent of the Nazi concentration camp guards were homosexual.After the article was published, Councilor Ross wrote a letter to Bay Windows accusing Massachusetts News of exploiting his father and of twisting his words. He said Camenker’s claims at the hearing were more of the same.

“Needless to say, the issue [of my father’s sexual abuse] is extremely complex, who he is is extremely complex, and for someone to prey upon him and get him to say something, perhaps in confidence, about a very difficult time in his life and to misappropriate that … is something that not only goes against who my father is and what he stands for but also borders on libel,” said Ross.

What a shame! Well, Brian Camenker did say on the Daily Show that if he had the time he could "find some ways of connecting the dots to gay marriage" on air quality, homelessness and crime rates so I'm sure the Holocaust is just a drop in the bucket!

I also want to paraphrase Ms. Massresistance: SHUT UP ALREADY to Amy (Mann) Contrada about the same sex marriages that have been taking place legally since May 17, 2004. You, Brian Camenker & John Hoskins are the about the only people in the state who are unable to grasp reality. No amount of posting "It's still not legal" or putting marriage in ""(quotes) is going to change that.

Brian Camenker/Massresistance: Holocaust Denier!

First there was the Nazi references in the email that Massresistance sent out to its group of haters where he equated gay people to the Nazis:

Did people in 1942 talk about respecting the Nazis "choice" of political philosophy? Or that we ought to consider letting Japan have Korea and the Solomon Islands if they'd let us have the Philippines - because that's what the "experts" say we could work out?

Then we hear from Tom Lang over at Knowthyneighbor who was at the Statehouse hearings yesterday:

At yesterday's hearing of Joint Committee on Education, Brian Camenker of MassResistance in support of Bill S321--Parental Notification--spent his three minutes of allotted time to speak in support of this bill by claiming that homosexuals were not among the 6 million Jews, gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses and social outcasts killed by the Nazis in the Holocaust. Camenker went as far as to say that the whole "pink triangle" was made up in order to arrest Catholic priests.

And it gets worse, one of Camenker's minions who testified twice agreed with Brian. In her testimony before the Joint Committee on Education, she said that it was the Nazis themselves who were the homosexuals and they gave pink triangles to and arrested only the "most flamboyant of their own people."

So I guess pictures like this are photoshopped:

This is just incredible and really unbelievable. I wonder if the list of local homophobes who appeared on Massresistance's Radio Show agree with him? I wonder if the co-sponsors of the bill Brian "claims" to have written agree with him also? Tom says only one of the 25 co-sponsors showed up for the public hearing.

This is so appalling.

WTTT Smackdown!

No, this isn't about some new wrestling show, it's WTTT, "Boston's Conservative Talk" and until yesterday, the host station for Massresistance's (A.K.A. Brian Camenker and Amy Contrada's) radio show.

Yes! It's true dear ones, Massresistance: The Radio Show is dead in the water. Apparently, they were given the BIG sign-off by the new general manager of the radio station who wouldn't even let them have one last hateful filled hour. What am I going to do on my Saturday mornings then Saturday afternoons now?

Of course, Brian has his own spin on the matter:

WTTT / Salem Radio has announced that it has permanently canceled the MassResistance Radio Show, after nearly two years of continuous weekly broadcasting.

Information from a Salem Radio source leads us to believe that pressure from the campaign of a certain Republican presidential candidate whom we've widely criticized prompted this decision.

Full report coming up later this weekend -- including what you can do. (Weekend's over but no report, it's not looking good kiddies)

Wow, they even have conspiracy theories to go along with it! I guess they don't have the homosexual activists to blame this one on or will they? Trevor Wright, in a comment over at QueerToday (and a Massresistance favorite) gets the prize for the funniest lines on them being booted:

They are claiming a right-wing conspiracy. Mitt is out to get them!! Next thing we are going to hear is that one of Mitt’s campaign staff wrote 'dust me' in Amy’s dirty house! Hahaha

Which got me wondering...for weeks (maybe months) Massresistance was teasing its readers with a headline about "Part 2" of the Mitt Romney Deception. It was supposed to have more secrets about Romney that nobody knew and they were going to release it in May. Well, there are only a few more days in May left and the "Sneak Preview" about "Part 2 of the Mitt Romney Deception" is mysteriously absent.

You might as well hang it up when the Religious Right Wingnuts, who you are supposed to be aligned with, are taking you off their airwaves.

They Just Look Like Happy Kids to Me!

Ms. Massresistance is at it again. She gleefully attended the Youth Pride Event in Boston two weeks ago with digital and video cameras in hand taking pictures of the youth she supposedly cares so much about.

She has the nerve to post pictures of people and because of how they look label them "dangerous". Since she is the one who is always talking about definitions, I guess "dangerous" must be an adjective meaning wearing a dress and makeup because that is all I can tell from the person in the picture. She must also have X-ray vision too since she seems to able to tell the gender of anyone that crosses her path (she does have a very unhealthy fixation on telling the women from the men).

Maybe it's just me, but I think adults, carrying all sorts of cameras, taking pictures of children they don't know, attending an event they are against, would definitely be described as dangerous and also perverted. How do we know what they are doing with all the pictures they are taking?

Here's what they claim on their website:

Vulnerable schoolchildren from 'gay clubs" in schools across the state mingle with adults, many clearly disturbed. "A sex offender's candy store." Kids encouraged to act out their 'gayness'.

So where's their head? If these school children are "vulnerable", as they like to claim, why are they photographing them? Are the "disturbed adults" they write about themselves?

They also really have to get over the drag queen thing too. They are the ones who had some butt ugly man dress up like Massachusetts Supreme Court Justice Margaret Marshall and burn a copy of the Massachusetts Constitution. Could it be that this is all about them being jealous that our drag queens are prettier?

Back Under A Rock

While celebrating this 3rd Anniversary, I couldn't help but reminisce about all the gay haters who "have left the building" (no, they're not dead, just gone from the Massachusetts anti-gay bandwagon):

• J. Edward Pawlick: The man who started MassNews disappeared from practically everywhere. His Massnews website is out of commission and although his wife's anti-gay website is still up, it hasn't been updated in years. It says they are still waiting for their "Bill of Address" to be voted on. (On a side note, this "Bill of Address" is Brian Camenker's claim to fame since that is the reason he started the Article 8 Alliance, to remove the judges, when that never happened they changed the name to Massresistance). Ms. Massresistance used to also write for this "conservative" website.

• Ron Crews: The head of the Mass Institute Against Gays A.K.A. Mass "Family" Institute before Kris "My marriage is affected by same sex couples marrying" Mineau, left the state to go back down south after a failed attempt to win a seat in the Massachusetts Legislature. He was one of the many Republicans then-Governor Romney boosted to initially run for office before Romney left the Massachusetts GOP in the dust (all the Republicans lost miserably because Romney became "Box-office poison") .
  
• Laurie Letourneau: This angry woman threatened to leave the State if same sex couples started getting married. They did and she did, good riddance. She also received the MFI Citizenship award.

• Larry Cirignano: He was part of the Vote On Marriage group until he physically attacked a young woman at a rally in Worcester. He also led the Catholic Citizenship in Boston. He has now been relocated to Virginia but comes back to Massachusetts for court hearings and anti-gay activism.

Actually, looking back on them all, most of them were involved with the Massachusetts Institute Against Gays. They seem to go through more members than Imelda Marcos went through shoes. This must be some kind of anti-marriage curse. Who will it strike next?

Happy 3rd Anniversary!

MassEquality is having a big party tonight with Governor Patrick! (I guess Massresistance forgot to alert its lemmings to tell the Governor not to come. Now I wonder how they will list this as a success).

Ms. Massresistance Targets the Youths at Youth Pride & BAGLY Prom

QueerToday has a report on Massresistance harassing and photographing the youths at last week's Youth Pride. They confirm things that I have already known for years:

After Youth Pride Amy [Contrada of Massresistance: The Radio show & blog A.K.A. Ms. Massresistance] headed over to the BAGLY Prom where she showed her true colors. When Trevor Wright, organizer for the Prom and blogger for QueerToday, yelled at her to move she became infuriated. During their interaction, Amy hastily asked Trevor if he knew what "cum vomit" was. She insisted she read about "cum vomit" on the GLSEN web site, and that we were brainwashing young people to be "crazed homosexuals."

Later she claimed that there was no real difference between a pedophile and a homosexual. She insisted sex and "depravity" were going on inside the BAGLY Prom, and demanded to be allowed inside. The obvious truth is there is an adult volunteer for every 10 youth in the Prom, and as the BAGLY web site indicates all sex, drugs, and violence are banned.

I'm sort of surprised that Amy knew the definition of "cum vomit" (this is the first time I've heard those terms used together) since she has a problem defining terms that most everyone knows.

My husband and I chaperoned at the BAGLY prom a couple of years ago and I can attest to the "depravity" that went on. It was TERRIBLE. The youth's were calling us "Mr." and I even had to tell one of the participants to to not stand on chair! They were OUT OF CONTROL! Geez, these gay kids are wild!

But seriously, the youth present the year we were there were very polite. They seemed to be having a good time and we were glad. Sadly for us, it made us feel old, we were on the dance floor area and had to wear ear plugs because of the music but we still enjoyed helping out with the event.

Tomorrow's "Courting Equality" Event

Just a reminder that tomorrow is the official launch of the book "Courting Equality" at the Cambridge YWCA. It seems very fitting that it will be launched on the eve of the 3rd anniversary of Marriage Equality in Cambridge since many of us were in Cambridge on that night three years ago.

I can still remember the feelings of hope and joy as I gathered with my future husband and some close friends along with hundreds (thousands?) of other people (future friends) celebrating this momentous occasion. It really was history in the making & now this book is documenting it all.

May 16, 6:30-8:30 pm, Cambridge YWCA, Hannum Hall, 7 Temple Street (Central Square, one block from Mass. Ave.), Cambridge, MA. Launch of Courting Equality! Meet the photographer, authors, and people in the book. Have them sign your copy. Books will be for sale at the event.

I BET the Governor is Listening to Massresistance...

and having a good laugh. You see, Massresistance is lying once again about their "Successes":

Your torrent of angry calls and emails did it!! Governor Deval Patrick, avowed "ally" of the homosexual movement, abruptly backed down and stayed away from the homosexual movement's annual hardcore "Youth Pride" event. Do not underestimate the power of outraged citizens armed with a single purpose -- even when things look bleak. Remember, this is the place where the American Revolution began.

Right...But the thing is...the governor wasn't even planning on being there. How do I know this, read this article in BayWindows which was put out last week around the same time Massresistance claims that the Governor was still attending:

“The theme of this year [Youth Pride] is ‘Make a statement,’ so every year we like to give awards based on the theme,” said Lydon. “GLSEN [is receiving the award] for not making a statement on Day of Silence but also making a bold statement at the same time, Amanda Palmer for her musical statement and her crazy fashion statements … and we’re giving Deval the award for his political statement.”

She said Patrick himself would not be attending Youth Pride, and she said organizers were uncertain about whether Palmer would accept her award in person.

My my my, I would guess that BayWindow's deadline is the latest, Wednesday night (possibly earlier), so even they knew that the Governor wasn't going to attend however, Massresistance just leads their lemmings to believe that he didn't attend because of them. What a crock! although not surprising. They would probably take credit for the sun rising and falling everyday.
I can't wait to see how they spin the inaction on the bills they supposedly submitted to the Legislature. I predict none of them will see the light of day but surely Massresistance will somehow list them as a success.

More of Romney's Inconsistencies

Massachusetts' former governor Willard "Did you hear the one about Massachusetts" Romney is appearing on 60 minutes this Sunday. Apparently, he now says that he is against gay couples marrying because it is against the "scriptures":

"This isn't just some temporary convenience here on Earth, but we're people that are designed to live together as male and female and we're gonna have families," he tells interviewer Mike Wallace, according to an excerpt CBS released Friday. "And that, there's a great line in the Bible that children are an inheritance of the Lord and happy is he who has or hath his quiver full of them."

So, while he claims that his "faith" should not be an issue in the campaign, he has no problem whatsoever using his "faith" to guide his policy decisions that affect people who do not follow his faith.

I'm no expert on Mormonism but I did see the documentary recently featured on PBS and I learned quite a bit. It was interesting to learn that some people consider his religion a cult and that they believe that God and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith and told him to create the one true church because the other churches got it wrong (this was around 1827).

The BIG problem I have is with the inconsistencies. You see THEY believe that Joseph Smith did talk to God and Jesus. And some angel, Moroni, told Joseph to dig up some golden plates and copy down everything on them which became the Mormon Scriptures. (Are you following me so far?) Well, Joseph Smith also said that God told him to take many wives and hence it was OK to be polygamists.

That is the inconsistency that bothers me. If you believe that Joseph Smith met God wouldn't you take EVERYTHING he said to be gospel? How can you pick and choose which parts to believe?

So this is where we come back to Willard Romney. He has no problem following the scriptures when it suits his bigoted position on same sex couples getting married but ignores Smith's revelations on polygamy. Could it be that Romney is against same sex marriages because he knows that most of the Republicans (who he wants to vote for him) are against it? It would certainly fit his flip flopper image.

Day of Defiance is More Like Day of De-Dud

Over at Article Hate/Massresistance/Parents Rights Coalition, etc... Brian and Amy are extolling the success of the "Day of Defiance". If you recall, the "Day of Defiance" was supposedly started by students but, of course, on their website: Massresistance, A.K.A. Brian Camenker, is named as one of the two organizations who started it:

The Day of Defiance was initiated by the Massachusetts grassroots conservative groups MassResistance and the Massachusetts Federation of Conservative Bloggers to stand up for taxpaying parents' rights in public education, while also offering an alternative view of the issues to Massachusetts students (a rare occurrence, undoubtedly the first for many). The Day of Defiance will feature events outside of a number of Massachusetts high schools with picketers, sign holders, and guest speakers during free periods, lunch time, and after school (when the Breaking the Silence event commences). Supportive conservative students, parents, and teachers, are encouraged to join us in this effort to protest the rampant cases of educational malpractice in our public schools, while also providing students with the other half of the story on family issues and conservative ideas which have been censored, stereotyped, and belittled during the course of their 'education'.

Of course, none of this happened. Even the Massresistance website states that no students were involved (but they keep trying to tell us that the "students" wink, wink, organized it):

To our surprise, none of the students who organized the Day of Defiance actually participated. They said were afraid of retribution by the school, particularly certain faculty members. (And they didn't think of this when they started organizing it?)

And most of the parents who had enthusiastically committed to protesting also chickened out at the last minute. For example, twenty parents had committed to be at Lexington (above), but only two showed up that day. (Hmm...even David Parker didn't show up, things must be bad!)

Bob Parks, former candidate for State Representative, who also ran for Chairman of the State Republican Party, went on the MassResistance radio show describing how he was going to make a speech at a high school as a Day of Defiance protester. He also agreed to send out press releases. But as the day approached, he suddenly backed out. (Maybe Massresistance can get CJ Doyle to come back on and tell us what really happened since he's such a regular on the radio show)

The whole debacle just sounds a lot like the typical Article 8/Massresistance/Brian Camenker sideshow that Massachusetts is so used to seeing from the crazies in Waltham. The "parents" who supposedly went to these school to incite pandemonium were so proud of their work that they list themselves as Bruce C. or Roger S. (I guess they go to the Amy "from Article 8" school of last names).

They must be heartbroken that no local news station picked up their antics although I expect the pictures will turn up on some crazy right wing site (I hope there's video too because I got such a rush off the dizzying "acid trip" video of the Vote on Marriage Protest they recently posted)

I'm anxiously awaiting May 17th too. If history is any indicator, Massresistance will have some "big" announcement about something that happened to somebody months ago yet they will twist and bend the story to make it appear like it happened yesterday and of course blame it all on the gays.

A Treat From San Francisco

The BBC broadcast a Sunday Service (recorded in October 2006) this past Sunday from the Catholic parish of Most Holy Redeemer in San Francisco:

Fr Donal Godfrey, Society of Jesus, leads a service from the Catholic Parish of Most Holy Redeemer, San Francisco, exploring how gay people can find a place in the Christian narrative and speaks of the gift of faith. The preacher is the Catholic writer and theologian, Fr James Alison.

My husband and I were honored to have dinner with both Fr Godfrey and Fr Alison a few years ago (although not at the same time.) The broadcast is available for downloading here (you need Real Player to listen to it) until this Sunday, May 6th.

Well, it appears that "homophobically inspired groups and individuals" are slamming the BBC with emails and calls to discourage any similar programs in the future. So get out your phone cards!

People are asked to call the BBC - 020 7580 4468, say you want to comment on a programme and ask for the Duty Log. This ensures that all comments are noted as received.

This would be very helpful since Christine Morgan, the BBC producer responsible for this area of programming is likely to have to go on Radio 4’s ‘Feedback’ programme over this, and she would value positive comments to support her. Her comment would be: Why has it taken the BBC so long to do such a programme?

Yup, She's Still Gay! Even 10 Years Later

Set that VCR, DVR, and/or TiVo! Monday, April 30th is 10 years to the gay, I mean, day, that Ellen's "The Puppy" episode aired and Oxygen TV is celebrating by running an Ellen marathon. From 8am til 2pm you can catch all those espisodes leading up to the 1pm showing of "The Puppy".

Wow, I can't believe it has been 1o years. I was an avid watcher in the beginning of the series. I started watching more regularly about a year before she came out because the show had become really hilarious. One of my favorite episodes was when Martha Stewart came over for dinner (I think it might have been Thanksgiving) and any time Jeremy Piven was on (he was hot when he didn't have hair, still can't figure out where all the hair he has now came from)


If you've never seen it, catch it, if you have, watch it again, you'll be glad you did. "The Puppy" episode features an all star cast including Laura Dern, Melissa Etheridge, k.d. Lange and even Oprah.

The Prom is Ruined Because the Bisexual is Dancing with the Boys AND the Girls!

If you happened to read the Boston Globe today, you might have read the story about the Catholic school girl who wanted to bring a same sex date to the prom but was told no.

If this was the end of the story it would have been fine since the high school, after all, is part of a religious institution and by law can discriminate against anyone they want because they are exempt (because they are a religious institution and not accepting public funds). You would think that the people responsible for the school would issue a statement with something about Catholic teachings and beliefs about gay people, etc... But nooooooooooooooo! Instead we get some hack spouting ridiculousness:

Administrators say they have banned same-sex couples because they want the prom to remain traditional.

"We're not looking for trouble at our prom," George A. Milot, superintendent of schools in the Diocese of Fall River, said yesterday. "Having boys bring boys or girls bring girls opens the door to all kinds of scenarios that could lead to problems. We're not willing to open the door. We're sticking with tradition; we have enough problems as it is."

He insisted the diocesean schools are not discriminating against gays and lesbians.

Where to start...? Did you hear about the prom's theme? It's 007: Diamonds are Forever. You know, 007, James Bond, that ladies' man who, when he's not objectifying women, is an trained assassin. Ah, I get it now, they want it to remain THAT traditional where men are in charge and women know their place.

His response also got me wondering about what kind of trouble they were going to get with having one girl bring another girl to the prom? Are the students so tough in Catholic high school nowadays that the two women were going to jump on the tables and start destroying the place?

And then there's that comment about "Having boys bring boys ...could lead to problems. We're not willing to open the door." Open the door to what? Everyone being treated equal? Gay bashing? What problems?

A Catholic school is free to discriminate against anyone they want. It's legal as long as they are not taking state or federal money. All these made up excuses just highlight the blatant hatred of gay people they have. It may be legal but it's certainly not Christian like.

Congrats New Hampshire!

New Hampshire will become the first state to adopt civil unions for gay and lesbian couples without a court order or the threat of one:

The Senate passed the bill 14-10 on straight party lines, Democrats in favor, Republicans against.

"I'm kind of am speechless," said Democratic state Rep. Bette Lasky, who shepherded civil unions through the House. "I'm delighted this is the result and I'm proud of both the House and Senate for upholding New Hampshire's tradition of advancing minority rights."

The bill goes to Gov. John Lynch, who announced last week he will sign it.
"This legislation is a matter of conscience, fairness and of preventing discrimination," said Lynch spokesman Colin Manning.

It was only a few short years ago when Vermont adopted civil unions. There was supposed to be a huge backlash against the people who voted for it but it didn't happen. In NH, like VT there are some lawmakers trying to confuse the people:

"Let's just call it what it really is, no sugarcoating," said Republican Sen. Robert Letourneau, of Derry. "This creates same-sex marriage. There is no right to marriage in either the New Hampshire Constitution or the federal Constitution."

"We don't let blind people drive or felons vote, all for good and obvious reasons," he said.

Good and obvious reasons? The NH legislature voted to give the people civil unions, not civil marriage! By the way Senator, blind people can hunt in over 14 states.

Don't you think Senator Letourneau should list exactly what those good and obvious reasons are?

Kentucky, Unbridled Spirit: To Discriminate?

News from Kentucky:

Gov. Ernie Fletcher said he doesn't expect to call a special session of the General Assembly until after the May 22 primary election and confirmed that he's considering asking lawmakers to block public universities from offering domestic partner benefits to employees.

It seems those darn public universities want to offer domestic partner benefits to its unmarried opposite sex couples and "can't ever get married because we put it in the constitution" same sex couples. The university says they only wants to attract the best and the brightest (who wants to move to a state where they discriminate against a minority?) They want your tourism dollars though.

Even though Kentucky passed that ban on equal marriage that wasn't enough. It appears they want to make sure that any couple that can get married does and any couple banned from marriages gets no benefits EVER.

Fletcher said he is receiving "push-back" from Kentuckians who voted for a constitutional amendment in 2004 banning same-sex marriage. Gay and lesbian couples would benefit from domestic partnership benefits.

"At this point, yes, I don't support domestic partnership benefits for this reason: We're taking tax dollars from citizens who voted and said they don't support same-sex marriage and putting that into benefits that could be used to hold down tuition costs and other things," Fletcher said. "We're getting a lot of push-back from the citizens across the commonwealth."

Note to the Massachusetts Legislators: When these groups, such as the Vote on Marriage people, claim that it's about marriage, DON'T BELIEVE THEM. It's really about stripping every possible protection away from gay couples. They talk a kind and civil game but in reality they just want us gone.

I do find it amazing that the religious right claimed that these anti-gay state constitutional amendments (and the federal one) would have no impact on anything else other than gay marriage. Now we're finding out otherwise, from the horses' own mouths. Now they're telling us that when the states banned gay marriage they also banned providing health insurance, inheritance, hospital visitation and more to gay couples. Funny, but I don't recall hearing any of that when the religious right was pushing these things. Of course, we also know from Ohio that these state amendments have also outlawed domestic violence laws. I'm not kidding. Women who have been abused by their boyfriends, fiancees, etc., can now no longer seek the protection of domestic violence laws because in Ohio you can't be given rights unless you're married. Now we're talking targeting straight women who are victims of violence.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

What Homosexuals Do Behind Closed Doors…

My husband went to the dentist the other day for his 6 month check-up and cleaning. Like most people, he detests going but was happy to find a new hygienist who he absolutely adores.

During the examination he asked her about a topic that we (he and I) discuss often behind at home: Should you floss or brush first? I've always been sure I was right (after all, I was one of the first Boy Scouts in the county to earn the dentistry merit badge so I had to be correct, right?) Well, in the eyes of my husband’s dental hygienist, I was right, but, she admitted that people can go either way, no studies have confirmed any perfect way.

After hearing this, my husband made her take a loyalty vow. He told her if word got out that gay people were discussing brushing and flossing in the privacy of their bedrooms instead of living fabulously exotic lives and planning the moral decline of civilization, then, well, people would think we were just plain ole boring.

Massachusetts Institute Against Gays

The editor of Bay Windows wrote a very poignant piece last week about the Massachusetts "Family" Institute (MFI). As an aside, I have always listed them with Family in quotes because MFI does not care about the family however, Susan Ryan-Vollmar has hit the nail on the head:

Honestly, what is the Massachusetts Family Institute doing for families in Massachusetts? If you click on the “Issues in Focus” link on the MFI website, you’ll get their 10 priorities for “strengthening the family”: dealing with child abuse, cohabitation, gambling, pornography, media violence, Internet safety and statutory rape; promoting marriage; strengthening parental rights; and fighting same-sex marriage. MFI, remarkably, manages to blame LGBT people as the cause — either directly or indirectly — of at least five of their issues: child abuse, cohabitation, pornography, strengthening parental rights and, of course, same-sex marriage. It’s remarkable that a political movement claiming to care about families and children spends more time and talent demonizing LGBT people than actually working for families and children.

Her last paragraph inspired me to change the link to them (and all future references to them):

There’s no question that families with children, particularly those at lower-income levels, need strong advocates working for them. Access to quality health care, child care and public education are crucial issues facing us all. Given what little work the Massachusetts Family Institute does in this regard, maybe they should change their name. The Massachusetts Institute Against Gays seems fitting.

Courting Equality

There's a wonderful new book out called "Courting Equality". It's by Patricia A. Gozemba (Author), Karen Kahn (Author), Marilyn Humphries (Photographer). My husband and I looked through the book this past weekend at the Now Voyager bookstore on Commercial St in Provincetown. I didn't even think copies were available yet!

Browsing through the book brought back some beautiful memories of the struggle we've gone through here in Massachusetts. Some of the pictures even brought back the painful memories of those groups out there who hate us simply because of who we are. I got misty when I found a picture of my husband and myself at one of the Constitutional conventions. (We were both shouting and crying over the defeat of the anti-gay Phil Travis amendment.) We felt really proud to be featured alongside our brothers and sisters in the fight for full equality.

So Much News So Little Time

This has been a week of highs and lows.

The week started with Brian Camenker's favorite adjectives: "horrific and chilling." Yes, Massresistance, THOSE are the adjectives that describe the events that happened in Virginia. Although I could never imagine Massresistance using those words to describe anything horrible. They're still talking up the 2nd Amendment on their sites.

It does make me wonder where Virginia has its priorities when they can craft a constitutional amendment to destroy any kind of contract or agreement between same sex couples yet also allow people, who have been committed to hospitals for psychiatric reasons, to buy firearms (interesting side note I learned this past week: you can buy one firearm a month in Virginia). "No Gay people are allowed to form unions but here's your gun and 50 rounds of bullets" disgusting!

Unbelievable as it is, this all happened days from the 8th anniversary of the Columbine shootings. With all this that happened I thought I couldn't be shocked anymore, well, that is until I received the latest email update from Massresistance:

In Massachusetts the dreaded "Day of Silence" takes place in schools on Wednesday April 25 -- a week later than the rest of the country (because of Patriots Day and school vacation week). And here in Massachusetts, it's not only the parents who've had enough -- it's the students. And they are organizing to fight back. A group is mobilizing for a "Day of Defiance" at five of state's most aggressively pro-homosexual high schools, as all-day events at the same time the Day of Silence is taking place.

"Have they No shame?" In the middle of the nation's pain they are promoting divisiveness and causing more pain among the children.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people affected by these horrific acts this week.

More Hate Propaganda from the Homophobes

As usual, Ms. Massresistance is attacking a foundation who's sole mission is to "secure equal opportunity for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender expression." Ironically, the Gill foundation was started because of people like Ms. Massresistance. A bit of history that you would never learn from Massresistance/Article 8/Parent's Right etc...:

The Gill Foundation arose out of a battle for equality. A 1992 Colorado ballot initiative denying lesbians and gay men equal protection in the state provoked outrage among fair-minded citizens across Colorado and the nation. One such citizen was Tim Gill, a Coloradan since boyhood, a graduate of Jefferson County's Wheat Ridge High School, and a gay man. Tim was moved to action by the attack on his and other Coloradans' civil rights. As founder of Denver-based software company Quark, Inc., Tim was in a position to invest in efforts to defeat Amendment 2, and contributed $40,000.

And I'm sure the Gill foundation files ALL its necessary taxes and paperwork too. They also operate in the light of the day and not in dark corners hidden behind cameras or tape recorders. I can just imagine the drool oozing out of Brian and Amy's mouths when they think about all the money the Gill foundation has given to worthy causes when Massresistance/Article 8 could have used it to publicize photos of Macy's mannequins. Her post reminded of another post I had read recently about "putting "fear of God" into the Flocks:

Christianity was never about persecuting those who aren't Christians. Jesusistan is all about demonizing and persecuting people not like them. The favorite whipping boy of the Jesusistani is the gay American. The icons of Jesusistan spend a lot of time framing the gay American as a rich leftist elitist, loaded up with diseases and ready to lead your children into the world of perversion that they inhabit.

The charge that gays are high-income plays to the resentment a lot of lower-class Americans are feeling about their continued slip down the economic ladder. It's a theme the Jesusistanis have played on for years, as we will see from the quotes below:Homosexuals are the wealthiest extremists of the amoral left.-Andrea Sheldon Lafferty of the Traditional Values Coalition

You find survey after survey showing gays are far better off than the general population in terms of college degrees, discretionary income, frequent flyer miles - Virtually every indicator of luxury.-Robert Knight, of the Family Research Council.

The post goes on:

Demonizing your fellow citizen, and making stuff up to bolster your hatred. This is the constant tactic of the totalitarian. Hitler had his Jews, Stalin had his Kulaks, Lester Maddox had his Negroes. However, the Jesusistani demonization is mostly a play on the old Hitler theme, because Maddox didn't allege that Black citizens were money-hoarding leeches, and Stalin didn't accuse the Kulaks of being child molesting perverts. However, Hitler accused Jews of being both greedy and perverted. He also had his statistics to "prove" it. If you just substitute "gay" or "homosexual" in place of "Jew" in most Nazi publications, you wind up seeing very little difference in the Streicher/Goebbels propaganda of old and the FRC/FOF publications of today. The reason for this is simple-demonizing minorities works. Take a society where people see their standard of living in a near constant decline, and give them a devil to hate and blame. A lot of scared, confused people will happily latch onto the devil you
provide them, if you screech long enough. The Jesusistan leadership has gotten a lot of traction out of demonizing gay people.

Massresistance's 15 minutes were up a long time ago, I just think their watch broke and they're being delusional to think that people still care about what they have to say (they're so popular that they have been bumped at least twice already on their radio show, once for a "Car Doctor" program and now for a program that interviews chefs and travel agents).

After viewing WTTT's website it has come to my attention that AAA is sponsoring the program that was on before Massresistance and is still airing WTTT. I guess I will just have to cancel my AAA membership tomorrow knowing that they support the bigotry of WTTT and Massresistance.

Money for Nothing

Ethan Jacobs of Bay Windows does a splendid job of exposing the financial dealings of Massresistance, Article 8, Parent's Right Coalition, et al. Should we be shocked that Brian Camenker's assortment of groups have failed to submit the necessary financial information to the government? Ethan reports that they submitted some documentation in 2006:

At the end of last year Camenker’s Parents’ Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that under IRS regulations can do public education work but only minimal lobbying, filed its first Form 990 with the IRS, which is publicly available on the website of the non-profit web resource Guidestar. The MassResistance website tells potential donors that those who want to make a tax-deductible donation to their efforts can make a donation to the Parents Education Foundation.

According to the 990, the Parents Education Foundation took in more than $80,000 in revenue from mid-2005 to mid-2006. That figure was the highpoint in the organization’s history; the year before it raised only about $22,000, and the year before that it took in just $8000. In 2002, the year Camenker founded Parents education Foundation, the organization raised just over $32,000.

The article goes on to say that the money this hate group generates goes mainly into Camenker's own dirty pockets. Oh, and the "volunteer" named Amy , she rakes in $6,000 a year from her 10 hours a week (is that a new definition of volunteer? Is volunteer even defined?)

The Massachusetts Secretary of State's office requires groups like the Parent Education Foundation (the "educational" part of Brian's groups) to file annual reports yet, as Jacobs reports, Camenker's group failed to file those reports in 2003 and 2004.

Don't you think its about time the Massachusetts Secretary of State looked into this matter?

Mass "Family" Institute, quite over their respect for the "other side" is now coming out of the closet with its support of the Parker's and the Wirthin's (in case you forgot they are the couples in Lexington who sued practically everyone in the town to stop the spread of children stories which included might or might not include gay characters):

There are so many things about these paragraphs that I've been thinking about:

• I thought I heard someone bragging that the Parker's/Wirthin's were getting all their legal fees paid for because this was such an important parent's rights issue. If that's the case why do they need money?
• A quick search of the Legacy Law Foundation shows that it is out of Utah and has someone on their board with a familiar name (Victoria Romney) could it be a relative?
• The Parkers/Wirthins are the people who initiated this lawsuit against the town the Lexington, why, all of a sudden is MFI saying this is a fight against the ACLU? What kind of smoke and mirrors are they trying to throw up?
• I hope they explain to their children, when they can't pay for their advanced education, that mommy and daddy spent a lot of money so you wouldn't have to hear/read stories about real families with real people dealing with the reality of living in a world with hateful and bigoted people.

To Love, Honor & Perish

There's a hot new TV show on Court TV called "'til Death do us part" which is narrated by John Waters a la Rod Sterling in the Twilight Zone (John plays the Groom Reaper).

Each episode features the Groom Reaper recounting the story of a bride and groom on their wedding day which eventually leads to one of them committing murder. (The story takes some twists and turns so you're not sure which spouse will do the deed) While I don't know whether the stories are ripped from today's headlines, they do sound familiar. Although the real news stories of heterosexual couples killing their children, mutilating and abusing them are MUCH more scary.

Um, Brian, You're About a Week Late with Your "Current Big Story"

Oh, Massresistance/Article 8, aka Brian & Amy are at it again. Once again they are attending meetings of the Massachusetts Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. Now supposedly they are not gay or lesbian nor are they youth so why are they attending? I'd guess it's because of their gay and lesbian photo fetish, after all, they did bring their cameras. Their "teaser" below the "headline" on their hate site proclaims:

"I feel I saw the face of evil last night," writes parent who observed meeting.

They are notorious for making it seem like they have all these supporters when it's usually only Brian & Amy who attends any of this stuff. Case in point, if you click on the link and enter their site of overused adjectives (chilling, horrific! frightening!) they include an incident that Queer Today and this blog talked about over a week ago only Massresistance neglects to provide details:

Trevor Wright even taunted one of the audience members after taking her photograph. He clearly wanted to send a message.

What Brian and/or Amy neglected to say was that the "audience member" was actually Amy, who ran from the room and didn't want HER picture taken. (Again, not giving a name makes it seem like there were lots of anti-gay homophobes there that night.)

They do provide a number of photos that either Brian or Amy took at the meeting. For the life of me I still don't get how they think posting pictures of attractive, happy GLBT people is going to SHOCK their viewers. We got so many compliments from the image they stole from us and posted on their website of our wedding. We are proud of who we are and no amount of their intimidation tactics or threats is going to force us back into the closet.

Back to the Bigot Business

Do you recall when the Mass "Family" Institute issued a press release saying that the other side was being uncivil?

Newton Upper Falls - Massachusetts Family Institute (MFI) today announced an initiative that seeks to build mutual respect and dialogue between those who support and those who oppose same sex marriage in Massachusetts.

Advocates for same sex marriage routinely have called supporters of the marriage amendment hateful and bigoted, while amendment supporters say they are simply following the constitutional process to have their voice heard on what they view as an important social issue.

Gee was that only 2 months ago (they issued this right around the time alleged assaulter and Camenker friend Larry Cirignano was in the news). How times change. This the latest email from MFI where we find them listing columnists who defended ignorant Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Peter Pace's remarks about the immorality of homosexual behavior (I'm sure they were doing this just for educational reasons right?

Even as this initiative beings to take shape, MFI and VoteOnMarriage.org will continue to urge supporters of the marriage amendment to be respectful of human differences and always maintain a dialogue that affirms the dignity of every person.

If you think they are respectful and maintaining the dignity of every person then I've got a unbaised radio show for you to listen to on Saturday morning. And to think that these people still can look in the mirror and call themselves Christians.

Smile, You're on Candid Camera

As I scanning stories online yesterday I saw one particular story that caught my eye:

Couple sentenced for having sex in front of child
PROVIDENCE, R.I. --A Woonsocket mother and her boyfriend were sentenced to three years probation on Monday for having intercourse in front of the woman's 9-year-old daughter to teach the girl about sex.

It caught my eye because it reminded me of a story Ms. Massresistance wrote a while ago:

From the time a child comes into the world, he observes his parents (one male, one female) interact. Sometimes they hug or kiss. And yes, he registers the fact that they sleep in the same bed. And sometimes the bedroom door is locked and he hears noises. This is a child's normal introduction to sex. It is simply put before him in the context of normal, healthy family activities. Pictures of a normal two-parent family in a picture book do convey a message to the child: This is a family.

I guess I was a bit surprised that they didn't put up this new story on their site since it seems to fit all their qualifications: one man, one woman, sometimes they hug or kiss of course they do take it one step further but could be this the slippery slope of teaching of your child about heterosexuality? (Massresistance/Article 8 loves slippery slopes, I mean they must, they talk about it all the time)

You also must check out QueerToday's post about the Monday meeting of the Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth. It seems the people who love to take pictures of gay and lesbian families and children don't want their picture taken:

She [Ms. Massresistance] put her note pad over her face and told me that I could not take her picture. I pointed out that it was a ‘public’ meeting and I can and will! She went out into the hallway and cried to the State Police officers. The officers are out there to protect the commissioners from people like her and the repressed homosexual Brian Camenker. They backed me up and told her that I had every right to take any pictures I wanted. *as Brian Camenker took pictures of me*

She refused to come back into the meeting and had a follower grab her stuff

Just another example of how they intimidate gay and lesbian people yet shy away from the camera when they know that their faces will be posted. Keep up the good work Trevor!

Children Will Listen

Ms. Massresistance's latest rants are about students holding mock hearings in the Massachusetts statehouse:

Two mock bills advocated legalizing polygamy, and we heard about a mock hearing on the subject that afternoon in the State House. The polygamy bills were mixed in with some silly bills (annex Maine; change the state muffin from corn to cranberry, etc.), and others on arguably legitimate topics (legalize gambling; require state-owned vehicles to use alternative energy; ban cell phones in public schools, etc.).

Further down she has the nerve to ask:

Now who is putting these ideas [polygamy] into young teens' heads?

Well Lordy Ms. Massresistance, YOU did. She first mentions polygamy way back in Feb 2005, only the second month after she started posting:
And then she essentially gives the students arguments for their mock hearing:

What's the problem with letting the students discuss it? Is she afraid they will bring up Jacob and all his wives from the Old Testament and use the argument that "The Bible said it was OK"? I'm guessing she just wants the kids to not think for themselves even though her and her ilk have been talking about the "slippery slope" for years with their children in tow.

Jeff Jacoby, You Forgot A Few Quotes...

Jeff Jacoby's latest column appears to be chastising Ann Coulter for her offensive remark about Presidential candidate John Edwards and gay people. However about half way down you see that it's really about the "liberal media" and how a comment by Bill Maher about V.P. Dick Cheney went unnoticed.

Why do I say that? Well, he only attributes one nasty comment to Coulter yet he provides a list of things Maher has said in the past. The fact that Maher said these things on his own show on a cable network that you have to subscribe to doesn't matter (or the fact that other Democrats on the HBO show also chastised Maher when he made the remark).

I guess the fact that Ann Coulter called John Edwards a faggot right after she was introduced by Mitt Romney isn't supposed to be important either since Jacoby didn't feel he needed to mention it (BTW, in his introduction, Mitt called Coulter a "moderate") Or that all the Republican presidential candidates with the exception of McCain was there at the conference that Coulter spoke at wasn't important either.

The kicker is this line from Jacoby's post:

If there is another, it is an end to the double standard that loudly condemns hate speech when it comes from the right, while barely noticing when it spews from the left.

Oh really Jeff, well, you forgot these quotes by the "best selling" author Coulter:

"We need somebody to put rat poisoning in Justice Stevens' creme brulee," Coulter said at Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Ark. "That's just a joke, for you in the media."

My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building.

Talking about the 9/11 widows:

"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis," Coulter writes.

"And by the way, how do we know their husbands weren't planning to divorce these harpies? Now that their shelf life is dwindling, they'd better hurry up and appear in Playboy. . .

"These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

Oh, yeah, Ann Coulter endorsed Mitt Romney too.
